Hot Button Topic: Is your CTA button losing you leads?

Consumers are inundated with marketing messages every day. A constant barrage of videos, images, and text promise solutions to every possible problem. The result? An audience primed for decision fatigue. And a frustrated, confused reader is far less likely to become a paying client. So, what’s the solution?

Your call-to-action (CTA) button should be direct, customized, and powerful – ‘Click Here’ just doesn’t cut it anymore. Your CTA button needs to inspire action. Here are some ideas that you can test out when creating your next CTA button.

Get Specific

Stay away from generic instructions. Remove the words “download,” “submit,” and even “buy” from your vocabulary. Instead, provide customers with results-based instructions that integrate an incentive and communicate benefits:

“Get Your Free eBook,” “Get a Free Quote,” or “Add to Cart — Save 20%”

Make It All About The User

Let the visitor know it’s all about them by including words like “me,” “my,” or “I” in the CTA button copy. For example, “Send me the Sales Ninja eBook.”

Or, you can take it a step further and focus on how the offer will benefit the user: “Yes – I want to be a Sales Ninja!”

Put People At Ease

Address common concerns within your CTA button. For example, people might be hesitant to click because they don’t want to provide credit card details, or they’re worried you’ll spam them or sell their information:

“Start your FREE trial now — No credit card required”

Ask A Question With An Obvious Answer

Ask a question and let your CTA button answer it:

“Do you want to convert more leads?”

“Yes! I want to convert more leads”

Some people include two buttons when using the question/answer approach: The ‘yes’ answer alongside a ‘no’ answer. This makes the affirmative answer more desirable by showing how foolish it would be to say no. It also creates a fear of missing out.

“Yes! I want to convert more leads.”

“No, thanks. I don’t want to convert more leads”
